TCA Major Events

Here are some upcoming Texas Chess Association events: 

Feb 28 - March 2 2025

2025 North Texas Scholastic Chess Championships, 7 round Swiss System,The Vista (formerly Vista Ridge or Music City Mall), 2401 S Stemmons Freeway, Lewisville Texas, 75067. Entry Fee is $45 by 2/7; $55 by 2/21; $65 by 2/25; $75 after and on site US Chess Membership Required (current through March 31, 2025)Scholarships awarded to HS Championship, MS Championship, Elementary Championship and Primary Championship $500 each. HS JV and MS JV $250 each, Trophies to Top 8 individuals and Top 4 teams in each section. In the event of ties Swiss tiebreaks per the USCF Rules (page 152 Paragraph 34E, 7th Edition) will be used: 1. Modified Median 2. Solkoff 3. Cumulative 4. Cumulative of Opposition. Two 1/2 point byes allowed if one is for Round 1. Sections: HS Championship, HS JV U1000, MS Championship MS JV U900, MS Novice U500, Elementary Championship, Elementary JV U900, Elementary Novice U500, Primary Championship, Primary JV U600, K-1Champ  Un-Rated Tournament, Saturday March 1, 5 round Swiss System (No elimination) Game 30;d5 - (5 second delay) Round Times R1 9:15 All others ASAP.Entry Fee is $25 by 2/7; $35 by 2/26; $50 after 2/26 and on site. This tournament is for players who do not have a US Chess membership. (Note: If the player has or had a USCF membership they ARE NOT Eligible to play the Un-Rated Middle/High School Section) The tournament will not be USCF rated. Scholarships to be Awarded Un-Rated Section: Middle/High School - $500 Trophies to Top 3 individuals and Top 2 teams in each section. One 1/2 point bye if requested before Round 2. Sections: Un-Rated Middle/High School, Un-Rated 4-5/6, Un-Rated K-3  Additional Scholarship Information:  Winners of scholarships will need to provide a 529 account for the funds to be transferred to.  The funds will be directly transferred to the provided account.  Winners have 60 days from the end of the event to provide the information (Until May 2, 2025). Seating for Parents, Coaches, and Players between rounds:  The Vista is a large mall however tables and chairs are very limited.  You can bring you own chairs (Lawn chairs etc).  There is ample room in mall but seating directly outside the playing hall is prohibited. A team is made up of at least 2 players from the same school and playing in the same section. There is no limit to how many players are on the team. For team standings, we count the top 4 scores. Team members are shown by all having the same team code. There are no team rooms. Instead teams can find areas in the mall to gather. This tournament will use the February Supplement.
